Barbarella Gelato & Wine

From the team behind The European, City Wine Shop & Spring Street Grocer, Barbarella Gelato & Wine, has opened its doors within the historic Block Arcade.

This magnificent, Victorian-era thoroughfare has always been worth a detour, with its impressive arches, towering glass dome and extraordinary mosaics inspired by Milan’s Galleria Vittoria – but now there is good reason to pause a little longer.

Nostalgia

Barbarella sits comfortably among this lofty heritage, with its curved black ironwork, marble counters and dark oak tables. Our display of fresh pastries, and the  gleaming lever operated coffee machine dispensing Romcaffè espresso, conjure up the nostalgia of cafés in the grand railway stations of France & Italy.

An All~Day Affair

An all-day affair, open 7 days from early till late, whatever your reason for being in the city, Barbarella offers the perfect staging point between the bustle of Collins and Elizabeth Streets. Whether it be giving your shopping legs a well-earned rest and a glass of prosecco, or a sandwich at the bar with a cheeky glass of wine, or just treating yourself to an ice cream on a hot afternoon on your way home; all comers are welcome to perch on a stool, for a breather at the bar.

Gelateria Primavera

Barbarella’s 8 pozzetti house gelati & sorbetto, made by Spring Street’s Gelateria Primavera, are churned fresh and delivered daily, using only the highest quality ingredients. Classics include pistachio, chocolate and fior di latte, with guest spots rotating among seasonal fruit offerings like mango & passion fruit sorbetto, or one of the many innovative combinations issuing from Spring Street.

Food & Drinks

Our little kitchen menu spans breakfast pastries, toasted sourdough & bagels, bircher muesli, a breakfast burger and a three-cheese toastie. Lunch might be soup, black rice salad, shredded pork brioche buns or a simple poached chicken in ciabatta with coleslaw. Refreshments come in the form of a smart, keenly priced offering of wines by the glass, as well as European & local beer, and organic cold-pressed juices from the Spring Street Grocer.
